UPPMAX offline on October 4-5 closed
The Ångström laboratory houses the UPPMAX compute hall, and the property manager, Akademiska Hus, will be performing work on the cooling system during 2023 as part of an energy-saving project called “Project Bläckfisken.” Project Bläckfisken is a modernization project in which Akademiska Hus is constructing an energy system that allows for the transfer of heat and cooling between different building structures, catering to specific needs. As part of this energy system, the UPPMAX compute hall will contribute heat during the winter months. To facilitate this process, Akademiska Hus kindly requests a 48-hour power-down period for the compute hall between October 4 and 5. During this time, all systems will be temporarily unavailable.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we aim to inform you well in advance.
Update 2023-10-09 16:30
Bianca is back in production, but unfortunately we are still debugging an issue with ThinLinc.
Update 2023-10-09 08:00
We are at the final stages of Bianca maintenance which involves system updates and a Slurm upgrade. We expect the latter to be of minor work, as we have already performed the upgrade on the Rackham, Snowy and Miarka cluster.
Update 2023-10-06 16:30
Progress on Bianca’s maintenance is steady and trouble-free. However, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Bianca will be able to resume production today, given the approaching weekend.
Update 2023-10-06 15:00
UPPMAX cloud, Rackham, Snowy and Miarka is back in production. We are making good albeit slow progress on returning Bianca to production.
Update 2023-10-06 08:00
UPPMAX maintenance activities progressing well. Systems will be returned to production as soon as we verify normal operations.
Update 2023-10-05 22:38
The physical maintenance ended at around 15.30, close to the end of the working day. Since all equipment was turned off, we couldn’t perform ordinary maintenance activities until then.
We’ve been doing maintenance to several components during the evening. Due to the relatively late resumption of cooling, most systems will still be unavailable Friday morning, but we expect most of them to get back online during the day.
Update 2023-10-05 14:20
The compute hall maintenance is in its final stages.
Update 2023-10-04 15:20
The maintenance has progressed smoothly, and the physical work is expected to be completed by late afternoon and evening. Following this, the cooling system will be fine-tuned, and we, at UPPMAX, are optimistic about making the system partially available as early as Thursday afternoon.
Update 2023-10-04 08:40
The compute hall was shutdown around 07:00. Maintenance on the cooling system has started. At earliest depending on how the maintenance progresses, we might be able to make some systems available Thursday afternoon, but we will likely not be able to return to full production on Thursday. As we receive more information we will update this page.
